RC Peak, an Indian Army establishment near Basantgarh, sits above Ramnagar town in Udhampur district, at roughly 2,000 metres. The area around it opens up into grassy meadows and cedar forest, and stays quiet through the year — one of those Jammu region spots that hasn’t seen much tourist footfall despite the views.
How to Reach RC Peak from Ramnagar
The drive from Ramnagar town to RC Peak takes about an hour, covering roughly 20 km. The road passes through the small hamlets of Kulwanta and Samna Banj on the way up — both part of the Dudu-Basantgarh belt of Udhampur district. It’s drivable in a private vehicle, though a few stretches are still rough, so go slow on those patches, especially if you’re not in a high-clearance vehicle.

Best Time to Visit
RC Peak works well across most of the year. Summers are pleasant and the meadows are at their greenest. Winters have their own charm — the area looks good even in the cold months. The one season to plan around carefully is monsoon: low clouds tend to hang right at face level, cutting visibility and making both the views and the drive less predictable.
What to See Around RC Peak
- Open grassland meadows with sweeping views of the surrounding hills
- Dense cedar (deodar) forest cover along the approach
- The small hamlets of Kulwanta and Samna Banj en route
- Basantgarh village nearby, further along the same belt
- Quiet, undisturbed surroundings — ideal if you’re looking to get away from crowded hill stations
Good to Know
- RC Peak is an active Army establishment — respect any local restrictions near the installation itself
- Carry enough water, food, and fuel, as facilities along the way are limited
- Some road patches are still rough, so a vehicle with reasonable ground clearance helps
- Basantgarh village, a bit further along, has its own attractions if you want to extend the trip

It may b an important place to visit in summer season by the reason of its calm environment and place for grasslands in ramnagar town. Ceder forests attracts tourists towards itself. Only the place where I found relaxed and calm myself. Also people of the areas are very sympathetic to everyone. Also I drank cool and fresh water at (putk Sui) which is about 02 km downwards in the midst of dense forest.
